What is the enforcement date for CPRA?

The CPRA enforcement date is July 1, 2023.

The California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) was originally scheduled to become fully enforceable on July 1, 2023. However, due to a delay in the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) finalizing its regulatory rules, a lawsuit postponed the full enforcement date to March 29, 2024. The CPPA appealed this postponement and as a result, the California Third District Court of Appeal ruled that the CPRA should be enforceable as originally planned beginning on July 1, 2023.

Therefore, when the CPPA won its appeal on February 9, 2023, the CPRA became fully enforceable in all respects as of the original July 1, 2023 enforcement date. This encompasses both the statutory requirements written directly into the CPRA legislation as well as the regulatory requirements developed later by the CPPA.
